- My goal with the locations and sets is to bring the physical feel of late 90s and early 2000s television shows that have inspired me while also capturing the essence of New England throughout all four seasons. In this section, I broke down what I want from each of these elements in my film using screenshots from one of my big inspirations for the worldbuilding and genre of my film: “Supernatural.” I also provided images of locations that are prominent or reminiscent of ones I’d like to have in my film.
- Early 2000s Urban Fantasy TV Sets
- Often feature a “vintage” look to them, especially if the place is a hotel or home where the spaces have been lived in and worn
- Lots of little details to give these spaces life (see Bobby’s house in 6×04 of Supernatural pictured below for reference)
- Climate Consistency vs New England
- New England often has inconsistent weather that makes it difficult to film, so many shows that take place in areas with unpredictable weather, especially in the Northern USA, will pick locations that are more temperate, and often cooler in temperatures. Vancouver, Canada is an extremely popular choice, as well as Ontario, Canada
- Locations & Sets in My Film
- Boston, Massachusetts
- Dolores’ apartment
- Zima Family Home
- Park
- Maine
- New England Hunters’ Council HQ in Kittery (Portsmouth Naval Prison)
- Mariko’s apartment in Welles (2 bedroom)
- Hills Beach in Biddeford

- Other
- Motels in New Hampshire
- Boston, Massachusetts
[Hills Beach, Biddeford, Maine. The location where Dolores and Mariko have their last date before Mariko goes to Iceland.]
[The Village Cafe, Portland, Maine. Mariko’s favorite cafe which she goes to multiple time with Dolores and Wynn throughout the film.]
[Will Hunting’s apartment in “Good Will Hunting” (1997). It’s located in Boston, where Dolores lives.]
[Portsmouth Naval Prison, permanently closed. Has been referenced in “Stand By Me” (1986) and used as a film set in the past. Is located in Kittery, Maine, which happens to be where the New England Hunters’ Council Headquarters is located. Due to the Council’s execution of Hybrids and needing a location to do so, I picture the Portsmouth Naval Prison as having been adapted by Hunter society into their current Council HQ.]
